UNIVERSE GUIDE
CONCEPT
United We Stand is not an era clash. Our plot is really quite simple: instead of being born in 1926, Tom Riddle Jr was born in 1979, making him the same age as Harry Potter.
The only other characters who went to school with Riddle in the canon that have been brought into this time period are Rubeus Hagrid and Myrtle “Moaning Myrtle” Henderson, whose lives would have changed completely had they not attended school with Riddle.
THE PAST
Since Tom Riddle was not born until 1979, nearly everyone's life has been affected in some way.
Tom Riddle hasn't yet founded the Death Eaters, they are still just a group of schoolchildren called the Knights of Walpurgis. Since there has not yet been a necessity to raise an army against dark forces, Albus Dumbledore never founded the Order of the Phoenix.
Horace Slughorn never retired from his post as Potions Master, and Severus Snape was accepted as Hogwarts' Defence Against the Dark Arts professor when he first applied for it. Seveus Snape never gave in to guilt and turned to the side of good to save Lily Evans, the woman he loves, because her life has never been in danger. Sybil Trelawney never made the famous prophecy and required Dumbledore's protection, so she was never hired to work at Hogwarts School.
Lily Evans and James Potter were not killed, and their son Harry never became the chosen one. James' best friend Sirius did not try to kill the one who had betrayed them, and instead all four marauders went on to have families of their own. Alice and Frank Longbottom were never tortured into insanity by the Lestranges and instead work alongside them at the Ministry of Magic, although in different fields.
THE TRIO'S YEARS
Harry Potter had Lily and James to take him to Platform 9¾, and so he did not meet the Weasley family until he was sorted into Gryffindor. Instead, he spent his time with the children of the other marauders. Quirinus Quirrel never took the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. He was never possessed by Lord Voldemort and therefore never had a dark wizard under his turban. Neither Harry nor Ron saved Hermione from the troll and started a strong friendship, for there never was a troll in the girl's lavatory. The Philosopher's Stone was never destroyed and to this day it remains in a vault in Gringotts bank.
Gilderoy Lockhart has never taught at Hogwarts school. Lucius Malfoy never slipped Tom Riddle's diary into Ginny Weasley's cauldron at Flourish and Blotts for Riddle's diary had not yet been made into a horcrux. The Chamber of Secrets has not yet been opened, and nobody has been killed by the basilisk under Tom Riddle's command. Gilderoy Lockhart never lost his memory.
In the trio's third year, there was no scar over Sirius Black's escaping Azkaban, for Sirius had never committed such a heinous crime to be sentenced there. Dementors were never sent to Hogwarts school, and Remus Lupin never worked at Hogwarts that year.
During year four, there was no triwizard tournament. The Quidditch World Cup took place but was not ruined by the arrival of Death Eaters, for there are no Death Eaters. Harry Potter's name was never pulled from the Goblet of Fire. Cedric Diggory not only survived the school year unscathed, but he also graduated and went on to become a professional quidditch player. Unfortunately, the fact that there had been no triwizard tournament also meant that there were no winnings for Harry to give to the Weasley twins to start their joke shop.
As no deaths had occurred in the previous year, the Ministry did not send Dementors after Harry Potter. He was not forced to undergo a trial and nearly expelled from Hogwarts. Cornelius Fudge did not send Umbridge to Hogwarts as the school's high inquisitor and as a result, there was no necessity to found Dumbledore's Army.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED
1899 -- A battle breaks out between Gellert Grindelwald and the Dumbledore brothers Albus and Aberforth, resulting in the death of Ariana Dumbledore.
1945 -- Albus Dumbledore confronts rising dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald and a duel ensues between the duo. Grindelwald is defeated and imprisoned in his own prison, Nurmengard. Prejudice surrounding blood purity begins to increase and decrease in cycles.
1972 -- Blood prejudice against those of non-magical heritage begins to increase drastically.
1991 -- Harry Potter and Tom Riddle Jr. meet for the very first time. Both boys take an immediate loathing to one another and an increasingly dangerous rivalry buds between the two already tense houses of Gryffindor and Slytherin.
1995 -- Tom Riddle stumbles across the legend of the Chamber of Secrets in his reading, and after doing a little research, becomes completely obsessed with trying to find it.
1996 -- The Ministry of Magic decides to reinstate the Triwizard Tournament. The first reinstated Tournament is held at Hogwarts School. Tom Riddle Jr. confunds the Goblet of Fire to force it to select him, but accidentally causes it to select two Champions from Hogwarts: himself and his enemy, Harry Potter.
1996 -- On their way to the Yule Ball, Tom Riddle Jr. interrogates his cousin, Tanis Gaunt, for information about the Chamber of Secrets, including its location. Although unable to provide him with an exact location, she is forced to disclose to him all she knows about the Chamber, including how to identify its hidden entrance.
1997 -- Tom Riddle discovers the Chamber of Secrets and begins commanding the Basilisk to attack and petrify muggleborn students.
ABOUT THE FUTURE – TENTATIVE PLOT
1996 -- Tom Riddle finds and opens the Chamber of Secrets, secretly attacking several students before killing muggleborn witch Keara Fitzpatrick and creating his first Horcrux. Tanis Gaunt is believed to be the perpetrator, until Tom arranges to frame another student, possibly Rubeus Hagrid or Luna Lovegood. Albus Dumbledore goes out of his way to protect the framed student and refuses to expel them.
1996 -- the Silverblood Society will also be founded. The group promotes blood purity and stresses the importance of keeping wizarding blood pure through arranged marriages.
1997 -- at the end of the 1996 school year, Horace Slughorn announces that he will be retiring at the end of the year. Dumbledore asks Severus Snape to assume the role of Potions Master.
1997 -- Dolores Umbridge is assigned to Hogwarts school after the death of Keara Fitzpatrick so that she can keep an eye on the school, and more importantly on Dumbledore and the students which he refused to expel. She takes over the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. She completely takes over Hogwarts and eventually the students rebel, creating a secret group called the Phoenix Legion where they can practice the spells that Umbridge refuses to teach them in class. Unfortunately, this group nearly leads to Dumbledore's arrest after he takes the blame to prevent several students from being expelled.
1997 -- Dolores Umbridge sponsors the Silverblood Society, and decides that it is the only student organization at Hogwarts that should be permitted to remain under her rule. Many students in the Silverblood Society may also be members of the Inquisitorial Squad.
1997-8 -- the Silverblood Society is commandeered by one of Tom Riddle's closest companions, who then converts the group from a peaceful pureblood promotion group into an extension of their aggressive and violent pureblood supremacists group, the Knights of Walpurgis.
1998 -- towards the end of the 1997 school year, the tension between the newly converted Silverblood Society and the Phoenix Legion finally comes to a head and an intense battle breaks out between the two groups. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of what is to come.
1998 -- "we plan, we get there, all hell breaks loose"
So basically from this point in, the wizarding world descends into chaos, but we haven't any detailed plans for this term at Hogwarts just yet. What's already planned may change, depending on how things play out in the long run.
