[Lavinia Snape]

The green covered commonroom was almost empty. Only a few of the older students were still left in the room lit and warmed by a bright, flickering fire in the fireplace. There were two seventh year boys playing wizards chess at one of the few tables in the Slytherin commonroom. Three girls were sitting off in a corner talking quietly amongst themselves. Lavinia Snape was sitting on the black sofa in front of the fireplace with her Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook open and her legs crossed underneath her book. Lavinia was the daughter of none other than Professor Severus Snape, who just so happened to teach the subject that Nia was studying at that precise moment. Nia had no real interest in learning how to defend herself against dark magic. She wanted to learn about it and embrace the mystery of the power behind uttering dark spells at those who made her angry.

Nia definitely wanted to use a few dark hexes on little Pansy Parkinson. She didn't care if the girl was in thesame year and house as her. Pansy, Milicent Bulstrode, and Daphne Greengrass had made Lavinia's life somewhat miserable after everyone found out that Nia was Professor Snape's daughter. Pansy had definitely seen to making Nia's best friend Aurora's life horrible. That was until Lavinia's ex-boyfriend and best male friend, Umbridge, stepped in and spoke his mind to Miss Pansy. Then Pansy stopped and let the two girls alone.

People treated Lavinia a bit differently after the news spread through school that she was Snape's daughter. A few wanted to use her to get good grades in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Others actually wanted to be her friend because of her blood lineage. Severus called himself a pureblood, but he had told the truth to his daughter and confessed that he was just a halfblood who was ashamed of his muggleborn father. Nia understood and continued with her father's lie by saying that she, too, was a pureblood.

Nia wasn't really paying attention to her book. She was staring into the fire. Lavinia's mind was blank as she looked at the golden red flames fluttering in one direction and then the other. One could look at the dark haired girl and say she might be hypnotized by the flames.

[Raynard Bardock]

Raynard Alphonse Bardock came stumbling up the stairs from the boy's dorms, nose tucked in a book as it had been since the first day back, studying for his owls, trying to cram four years of learning into his head before exams started at the end of April.

Trailing along at his feet as always was the boy's cat, who would have been a pretty, but unremarkable long haired female cat... if it wasn't for the fact that the cats fur was bright pink!

Stopping at the head of the stairs, ray lowered his book and looked around, "Anyone seen Padmore or Riddle?"

"No." said Adrian Pucey not looking up from his book on seventh year charms, he too was stuck studying, only he was expected to cram 6 years worth of schooling into his head and keep it all fresh. Understandably all the seventh years were moody and sullen at this point.

Sighing, Ray turned and was about to leave for his room again when he spotted poor Lavinia, and with a smile, changed direction coming over to the girl.

"Hey there Snape!" he greeted plopping down in a chair beside her, "So what are you up to this fine day? Plotting to poison anyone? Mind if I suggest a few names?"

His cat came over and jumped up, curling on the arm of Lavinia's seat, licking down the pink fur on her chest with her equally pink, rasping tongue, and then squeezing her eyes shut, purring contentedly.

[Lavinia Snape]

The dark brunette was still staring into the fireplace when a male voice interupted the silence. Nia was still well aware of her surroundings. She had learned to identify the voices of almost every Slytherin student that ever entered through the commonroom during her years so far. She could tell that the voice that was speaking was Raynard Bardock, a fifth year blonde haired boy.

Lavinia snapped out of her flame hypnotized gaze and looked back at her book. She glanced around the room slowly before looking back down at her book and saw Bardock's cat strolling behind her young owner. Raynard was only a year younger than herself. Nia was somewhat mature for her age, but she believed that had to do with her quietness and her nature to stay to herself and her two best friends. It was rare anyone saw the girl with anyone else but Aurora and Umbridge.

"Hey there Snape!" Bardock said, somewhat startling Lavinia. Nia was not used to other students coming up to her and striking up a conversation with her right away. "So what are you up to this fine day? Plotting to poison anyone? Mind if I suggest a few names?"

Lavinia smiled politely. "Now, Bardock, why would you think I would be plotting to poison anyone? You know I must be on my best behavior since my father is a professor at this fine school of magic," Nia answered kindly with a hint of sarcasm behind her voice. Her brown eyes twinkled slightly. "But I believe anyone can guess who I would wish to poison," the girl said quietly. Lavinia calmly stroked the pink cat that was sitting on her arm rest. She counted to five silently and, just as she thought, the cream colored Axis, her male cat, showed up and jumped right into his mistress's lap, right on top of the book that was wide open.

[Raynard Bardock]

"Now, now, what your father doesn't know, can't possibly hurt him. Or you." said the boy calmly with a wicked smile, wiggling his eyebrows. He glanced over at the two cats, "Jealous little things aren't they?"

Vivi mewled and purred loudly, small pink tongue busying itself with cleaning a delicate little paw. The cat made no actions as if to move, On the contrary, she seemed to be making herself as comfortable as
possible. She seemed completely fine staying right there, and letting both Ray, and Lavinia, spoil her...

Ray sighed, and shook his head at the cat, muttering softly to himself, "I've spoiled her rotten... And yet, I can't say no to her..."

Ray looked about, Noting the strangely vacant state of the common room. "So where's Umbridge and that girl you usually hang out with Vin?"

It was rare for him not to see the other two nearby. But then, this was the weekend, so maybe, just maybe...

Maybe what? Maybe they skipped off to Hogsmeade together, to snogg the heck out each? Get real, they were Lavinia's best friends, and her former boyfriend, and the would never do such a thing.

Ray sighed internally, this was why it was bad when Horatio wasn't around to keep hm busy. His brain started to think about all kinds of weird things. And plot conspiracies so grand and convoluted that they would make normal people's heads' spin.

His own text book lay long forgotten out his lap, the page he'd had it open to long, being closed, and forgotten.

[Lavinia Snape]

Axis purred loudly as his mistress started to pet him and give him attention instead of the pink female cat next to Lavinia. Nia smiled. Axis always wanted Nia's undivided attention and hated when she was giving another feline a few gentle strokes of her hand.

"Now, now, what your father doesn't know, can't possibly hurt him. Or you," Raynard said. Severus could always tell if his daughter was up to something and it seemed that he always knew if she was misbehaving. Even though the two had known their were father and daughter since the summer after Lavinia's first year, there was still much about her dad that Nia had to learn about. She always found it strange how her father knew so much about how she spent her time.

Lavinia held Axis in her arms and continued to pet the creature."Jealous little things aren't they?"

Nia smiled. "Axis hates to share me with other cats. Even my mother and sister's cats are not allowed to get any attention from me. He is very protective of me," Nia answered calmly.

"I've spoiled her rotten... And yet, I can't say no to her..," Bardock said. Nia knew what he meant. Axis was the same way. That little bugger was hard to step her foot down with. He was a persistant little thing that knew how to manipulate Lavinia.

And then the dreaded question came up. "So where's Umbridge and that girl you usually hang out with Vin?" Bardock asked.

Nia's face turned a bit sullen. She hadn't seen her two friends since lunch time and it was already three in the afternoon. Nia sighed. "Umbridge is somewhere around the school with Tom and Aurora is in the library with a few of her History of Magic classmates writing a paper that is due a few days from now," Lavinia answered, putting extra emphasis on Aurora's name. Aurora was one of the few invisible Slytherins and she was always known as Lavinia's best friend, not as Aurora or Magistra. Just Lavinia's best friend. At least she knew where her two friends were and she knew that in an hour or two they would be walking into the commonroom and come straight to her.

[Raynard Bardock]

RAY'S SKIN

"Aurora, that's her name? I kept thinking it was something like Margie or something." Ray said offhandedly, he had never really met the girl, he rarely paid attention to anyone outside of the Knights, and lately he was often too caught up with doing whatever Horatio or Riddle wanted him to do to be bothered with socializing with others.

Today however he had no real agenda thus far, Horatio had seemingly vanished into the Ether, and Riddle was off with others doing his own thing as well.

"I am being rude though aren't I? How have you been doing Lavinia?" Ray asked, finally getting into the formalities, "I never hear much about your lot, unless its Parkinson running monologue... and I can't help but feel that that information is slightly slanderous." Ray smiled, dreadfully amused by the play-by-play between the girls. He rarely saw such open bias. Most Slytherins were well bred enough that they did whatever black balling they felt necessary, covertly. Parkinson however seemed to make it her life's mission to complain LOUDLY about things that upset her however. She'd not approached either girl since Umbridge had come down on her. So instead she was now just whining to her friends and lackeys instead. Ray had heard that Draco Malfoy had gotten so sick of hearing about it, that he'd taken to putting up Mufflio charms around himself whenever Parkinson was around, so that he could study or talk to friends in peace.

'Smart man.' Ray thought Idly.

Vivi finally hopped down, done with her bath, and strolled over to Ray leisurely, and jumped in his lap, making a show of stretching, before curling up and purring in a loud thrumming voice.

"Well hello baby girl, finally decided to grace me with your presence, eh? How kind of you..." Ray chuckled, stroking her magenta fur.

Study for OWLs they said, it would be fun they said. Yeah, only if he was a Ravenclaw. But Horatio doubted even those Ravenclaw liked studying this. The stress began to come from every corner it could slip through. First, was his uncle, and then his parents. He had to put aside many things, like going to Hogsmeade, even Quidditch practice. Things had been rather quiet around, or you could say, quiet between the fifth and seventh years.

The fifth year Slytherin leaned his back on the chair he was sitting on in a defeated pose, rubbing his temple. Remembering these star names and how to tell them apart was nearly impossible to him. They all looked the same if he were to look into the telescope if you ask him. Frustrated, he decided to just forget studying it for now and left the library with his textbooks. He needed stress relief. Anything. Even Raynard. Speaking of Raynard. He wondered why hadn't that boy found him yet. Usually he would be found very easy for sitting out in the open of the library. Today could be a record.

He went back to the dungeon with the thought of putting the books away then go out for some fresh air. He might come across Ray there... Nevermind, he already heard that voice coming out from the comon room after speaking out the password. The common room was brighter than usual as someone finally cared to light the fireplace. As he entered the comon room, ignoring everyone else, he saw Raynard chatting with Lavinia Snape. "Funny, Snape had a daughter, who was the lucky woman I wonder" It was almost as shocking as his uncle Mark coming home saying he got a girlfriend (never happened, and probably never will).

"Hello Snape" Horatio nodded with a slight hint of a smile to greet Lavinia. But when looked at Ray it was a colder look. "Ray, you do realize it's my favorite chair right?" He said, his face looked like you-better-move-somewhere-else-before-I-finish-choosing-a-hex. He tended to be like that to Raynard for no reason, despite them being close friends, maybe there was the reason... I'm not going to lie, he still hadn't forgotten Ray's accidental problem.

[Lavinia Snape]

Lavinia rolled her eyes. "Yes, her name is Aurora. Her last name is Magistra. You probably got her name confused, Bardock," Nia said, in her somewhat smart aleck voice. Nia always felt a little twang of anger when someone did not treat her dear friend with the respect that she deserved. Lavinia always protected her friend.

Axis meowed loudly. Nia had stopped petting the feline and he was a bit perturbed with his mistress for stopping the gentle, loving motion of her hand going up and down his back in slow movements. Lavinia looked down at her cat and smiled. "You would complain about not getting attention, Axis." Nia laughed a little. She could tell that she was not going to get any studying done, so she shut her textbook and placed it on the coffee table in front of the sofa she was sitting on.

"I have been quite good, Bardock. Father always wants to check on my grades and we usuallly have a private father-daughter dinner in his chambers once a week. It is nice to have some quality time with my dad," Lavinia said. Severus and her made it a point to have a private dinner together every Friday evening. While the other students and teachers were in the Great Hall eating a delicious meal made by the house elves that worked at the school, the two Snapes were in Severus's private chambers eating a meal cooked from scratch, and not magic, by Severus.

At the mention of Pansy Parkinson, Lavinia rolled her eyes. "Of course, Parkinson would talk about me behind my back even after Umbridge told her stop. Whatever she says about me it is probably not even true," Nia said, with a slight hint of anger in her voice.

At that moment, Horatio Padmore came through the entrance of the common room and came right up to Lavinia and Raynard. "Hey, Padmore. How's the studying for the OWLs going?" Nia asked.

Ray was just about to answer Lavinia, when Horatio showed up.

"Ray, you do realize it's my favorite chair right?" Horatio said coldly, giving him The Look.

Ray jumped up immediately and moved off to the side, hugging Vivi to his chest.

Vivi however was not so happy to oblige, and hissed at Horatio, her own gold eyes narrowing in a way that clearly said: "Enjoy the seat while you can Padmore. It will be shredded by morning!"

Ray looked around, there really were no other chairs nearby. Sighing, the boy flopped down on the floor, and set Vivi in his lap, before continuing to pet and scratch her.

"Well it good to see you too Rate. Where have you been all morning? Off chasing skirts?"

Ray wasn't expecting an answer in the first place, the added teasing was just a throw in, since he was annoyed.

Vivi purred a happy, loud thrumming purr. And curled up, he nose tucked under her tail.

Ray was actually pretty sure he could guess just were Horatio had been, the library had become their hang out of choice this year after all.

The very thought of O.W.L.s was enough to turn Ray's stomach, if he survived this year, it would be a miracle. He had no idea how he would make it through his Newts in two years time. It was just mind boggling, and now their had been talk of Career Counseling or something. He was fifteen years old, how could anyone possibly expect him to plan his who life out by the end of the year!?

Muggle teens never had to worry about such things, at least not in such a finalistic way. They were pretty much free to do what they pleased until they turned eighteen. They could start thinking about career choice early on. But they could always change their minds. In the Magical world however, they didn't have that luxury. Here, you had to choose, in order to know what classes you needed. Then you had to study like crazy in order to pass your O.W.Ls in those classes, so that you could study their advance classes the following year. Topped the year following by trying to survive your N.E.W.T.s which, if the name, (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests) was any indicator, were a billion times harder than O.W.L.s... Tu Joy...

The Slytherin boy gave his friend's pink cat a supercilious look, then sat down on his chair with the textbooks placed on his lap. The feeling when he got to boss someone was nice. He smirked when he saw Ray sitting on the floor like the little pet that boy was. A pet having a pet. Funny.

"Hey, Padmore. How's the studying for the OWLs going?"

His wandering thought blew up very quickly as Lavinia asked. He didn't care anyway, it was such a weird thought. There were times when Horatio asked himself if he had gone insane after all those studies. The warm fire seemed to ease his mind a bit. But the mention of O.W.Ls when he was trying to forget had taken away that smirk on his face. "So-so." He replied to the girl, not really looking at anyone he was talking to as usual.

He didn't care about Astromony anymore. After all, the boy never intended to study it for his N.E.W.Ts. There was a problem though. It true that he wouldn't choose to study it even if his grade was enough. But he wouldn't actually give it up before finishing the O.W.Ls. It was his uncle's favorite subject, at least he should try to get an Acceptable in order to please the man.

Then his attention switched back to Raynard sitting on the floor when the boy asked him where he was. The question could have avoided another icy look he sent to its owner, if there wasn't the last bit. "Now, now, baka-Ray. You know what I think of girls." Horatio smirked again at his buddy. He hated girls. Since he was young, he had a lot of bad experience with daughters of his parent's friend. After his father's small talk about his future last year, he knew he had to forget that annoying past and pay a few attention to girls if he want to rebuild the Padmore lineage. But none have yet to show themselves worth the effort. "Though there might be a few-" He gave Snape's daughter a quick brief glance before continuing.

"To answer your question. I was at the library, obviously. Only half finished an essay about giants and their stupidity." Finishing his answer for Ray, he leaned his back on the chair, watching the cats being treated like they were kings and queens of the world. Suddenly, remembering something, he slightly turned his face to Lavinia. "I'm a little curious, Snape, what job did you choose after your career counselling last year?"

That's right, he would be having one this year. Though, he still haven't got an actual idea which career to decide the classes he would take the following year.

Draco walked back down alone from the library, Messing absently with the strap to his school bag, until he realized what he was doing, and immediately stopped himself. Malfoys never fidgeted.

So what if he was feeling irritable- no. Not irritable. Malfoys were never irritable, they were above such petty emotions. In public they were cool, calm, and most certainly, always in control of their emotions.

So Draco couldn't be irritable, he could be annoyed by the fact that he'd seen Voldemort disappear off to the second floor earlier, and hadn't seen hide nor hair of him since. What was on the second floor? Nothing! Defense Against the Dark Arts, the Quidditch Office, which was closed. A couple spare rooms, and suites, from back when whole families used to live at the castle year round during the Witch-hunts. And bathrooms. Surely he wasn't still in the bathroom...

Draco sighed, and straightened up, squaring his shoulders as he reached the Slytherin Common Room.

Entering, he glanced around, and wondered for a moment at the near desolation of the usually crowded living space. His eyes fell on Lavinia at the far side of the room, and raised an eyebrow at the sight of Padmore sitting across from her, and Bardock, down on the floor.

He raised an eyebrow in Lavinia's direction, but ignored the strange gathering for right then, instead heading downstairs to his dorm room to drop off his things. He'd come back up and see what all that was about.

[Lavinia Snape]

Slytherin boys could sometimes be a very interesting bunch, especially the younger ones. Horatio and Raynard were no different. Each Slytherin, though, had their own special charms. It was those charms that made the house very intriguing to some people. As Padmore and Bardock fought over the chair, Lavinia snuggled with Axis. Nia was not found of little bickers between her classmates and often would use that as an opportunity to escape to her dormitory where she could do a bit more studying or just cuddle with her cat.

This was the most conversation that Lavinia had ever had with people that were not part of her normal group. That group included Draco Malfoy, Aurora Magistra, Tom Riddle, and Umbridge. Nia rarely went out of her little group for conversation. Axis meowed loudly, trying to interrupt the boys’ little bicker over the chair, sensing the uneasiness from his mistress. The cat glared at the two fifth years with piercing eyes. He was such a Slytherin feline. Nia smirked at her adorable cat and gave him a light squeeze.

Fifth year was a very interesting year for Lavinia. She was usually up late during the weekends doing homework and studying for her O.W.L.s. Severus wanted his daughter to do well on the tests so she would have many options to choose from for a career in the wizarding world. Nia already had her career chosen before the tests, though. The dark haired girl had inherited her mother’s strong ability at mixing potions and creating interesting combinations. She wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps and work at a potions shop and even create some of her own potions. Lavinia had even thought of teaching Potions at Hogwarts, but the potions shop idea seemed to appeal to the girl more. She had even thought of owning her own potions shop in the future after building a good reputation in the potions field. Padmore asked her about her career counseling. “I went with working at a potions shop, making potions, and someday owning my own potions shop. I have a strong ability with mixing potions.”

Nia glanced up in time to see a tall blonde haired figure walking down the steps towards the boys dormitories. It was Draco. Nia knew that it was him. A small twang of pain hit her. Draco and her had been good friends for years, mostly because of her father and Lucius Malfoy always meeting for a few weeks during the summer. The two of them had grown quite close during those weeks in the summer. Their last summer encounter had been a bit strange though.

[Raynard Bardock]

Ray scratched Vivi behind the ears, silently watching as Lavinia and Horatio conversed. Usually he would talk a mile a minute if given the chance, however, he knew if he dared interrupt Horatio, that he'd be hurting later for it. If not physically, then mentally, when the other boy started giving him the cold shoulder.

The worse thing you could do to Ray was ignore him. His parents had ignored him his whole life, after Their precious Jack was born. And he'd developed quiet a complex due to that.

Ray sighed, It was times like these that he almost wished that he and Roy had been in the same house. They never ignored each other. Both knew too well how much it hurt to have someone pretend that you didn't exist.

Ray raised an eyebrow and looked up, as Lavinia's cat started Yowling. 'What on earth is his problem?'

Vivi made a strange little "Brrryow!" which seemed half purr half mewl, and rolled onto her side, front paws hanging down, head laying on his knee. She crained her head back, pink face staring up at Axis curiously, "Brryow? Brr Brr!"

Ray chuckled softly and scratched her behind the ear, "What are you doing Lovely? Telling him off for making a racket?"

"Brrrr!" She purred, and rolled on her back dramatically, paws in the air.

Ray tickled her belly, and she stretched, splaying her claws lazily, then rolled back on her side and yawned, tongue curling in. She turned to look back at Ray, with her big golden eyes, the tip of of her small pink tongue sticking out at him.

"You nutter." Ray scoffed.

"Brr!" purred Vivi smugly.

The part-Asian Slytherin listened to Lavinia's answer without really changing his expression. It was a ilttle astonishing to hear such little goal coming from a Slytherin. Most of those he had asked wanted to be at a high place in the Ministry, Minister even. This made him think Snape's daughter was either a rare case of unambitious Slytherin, or that was all she could do. Of course it would be unwise to openly make any remark on that. Horatio quietly made it a point to himself that career would not be in his list of option. He was a good student in potion class, but all the shop-owning jobs were boring in his view.

He was slightly distracted by someone coming into the common room. That blonde head was unable to be mistaken to most others. He recognized Draco Malfoy, as well as the older Slytherin's seemingly-surprised expression before the blonde headed straight to the boy dormitory. The Padmore eyed at Ray and Lavinia then his eyes glinted in amusement when he understood what had caused such an expression to appear on the Malfoy boy. Surely the scene was questionable. Anyway, he returned his attention to the sixth-year girl to give a respond.

"You mean Apothecary? I didn't expect you to be one who likes to be indoor, Snape. " He commented on the matter. "I would prefer a job in the Ministry if I were you. Isn't your father a friend of the Malfoys? I'm sure they can get you a nice job in there." The connection between Severus Snape and the Malfoys were well-known. Those minions of Draco Malfoy's told him that Snape occasionally visited the Malfoy manor. Besides, it wasn't some kind of a secret. He abjusted his sitting pose before eying at the cats.

Such slippery creatures, deceiving people for their own benefits. He owned a cat before and figured the cats only came to its owner when it wanted something, like food or some scratches behind their ears. He wasn't very fond of cats, they set fur everywhere and just lied freely on the floor where people could accidentally step on them. Staying in the same dorm-room with Raynard could prove his points. Horatio had lost many stuffs all thanked to that crazy pink cat. The cat he used to have was a lame gift from his father. He loved the green snake his uncle bought for him more. The only bad thing about having a snake was to be careful as not to set them loose around the house.

Upon looking at Raynard talking to the cat, he had a little pity on him and decided to let his friend join the little chat, knowing he might regret it soon.

"And you, Ray, anything in mind yet?" He asked, keeping the topic of careers.

Draco meanwhile put away his things, and paused, still mulling over Tom's absence. Finally, he gave it up as a bad job, and turned his thoughts to Lavinia, Padmore and Bardock... What was that about he wondered.

Well only one way to find out. He picked up a book, just in case this turned out to be a total bore. And then, checking himself over in the mirror, more out of simple habit than any real streak of vanity, the young Malfoy turned, and made his way back upstairs.

When he arrived, he levitated a chair over to where the three were sitting, and made his way over, sitting down and crossing his lag, before setting the potions text book on his lap.

"Lavinia, Padmore... Bardock." He greeted, and then made a show of opening his book, and looking disinterested in their conversation... The liar...

He took note of Bardock's position and resisted the urge to arch an eyebrow at Padmore... Now he was making his lap dog sit at his feet?

He honestly didn't even want to THINK about the relationship between the two, it was nearly as disturbing as the time Padmore's uncle had had the boy give him flowers... Yeah... Not going to remember that particular incident just now...

Instead he listened as Bardock flailed and tried to articulate that fact that he really had no effing clue what he wanted to do with his life.

Draco turned his attention away from the pathetic display, and thus settled his attention on Lavinia.

[Severus Snape]

Snape came to the Slythrin common room to see that those in his house where here & not out running around, it would be one less headache to know this than to think they where not & go looking for them. He entered the common room, taking in the students that where there & mostly his daughter, even with the short time they had been around one another he was learning her fast, on more how she would act something that he was sure would help later when she found danger or that.

He was dressed in his black robes & clothing of the Victorian style cut to it, but as much a threat as he could come off he was not as much to those of his own house, however that did not mean that they could not get into trouble with him if they pressed him. He watched them a moment before he approached "Well I am glade to see that you all decided to stay where you should be & not go wondering off as others do"

As he moved his robes glided behind him almost like that of a snake, when he stopped they settled around his shoulders more like that of a ravens wings, but even with this he held the eyes of a predator & not prey of one not to be tried.
