[/i] been invited. But he'd managed to get in anyway. Tom nodded his approval at the other boy's determination. Salazar Slytherin had sought ambition and cunning in his students, and his descendant Tom Riddle valued the same things – when they did not interfere with his own plans. And Horatio's presence here, tonight, at the Gala would certainly do no harm. Quite the contrary, actually. He was already gathering an entourage and he'd only just arrived. Yes, Horatio's attendance was a positive thing, tonight.

And if anyone sought to throw Horatio out because of his lack of a proper invite, Tom was a smooth talker – he might even talk them out of it. But not without a price, he wouldn't. No, if Tom saved Horatio, Horatio would owe him and Tom always remembered his debts. He would always remember when he had yet to collect. “Salazar Slytherin would be proud, I'm sure.” Tom said to Horatio. And perhaps Gryffindor too. After all, it had taken some nerve to do such a thing. But then, if Horatio had been in Gryffindor house, he would have been thrown out by now because Gryffindors were overwhelmingly stupid and Tom doubted that any member of the house of brawn-over-brain actually possessed the intelligence to sneak in tonight. Perhaps Granger, but she was a good little girl who always did as she was told.
When Tom heard the voice of one of his invitees, Lavinia Snape, he turned to greet her. Reaching her her hand, he brought it to his lips as he lowered himself into a bow, playing the part of the perfect gentleman. “Lavinia, you look lovely tonight.” Almost any other Slytherin girl would have swooned to hear such words come from Tom's smooth-talking tongue, but Tom enjoyed Lavinia's company because she usually didn't act like a complete twat like many females he knew had the tendency to do. Not that she was the perfect picture of womanly strength and didn't falter sometimes. Tom had never met anyone truly alike himself in that they possessed such strength to resist all emotion and temptation. And he couldn't blame Lavinia, after all, for he was sure if he needed something terribly, he could manipulate that weakness to his own advantage. But there was no need to do or even consider doing that just then. No, for now they needed only to enjoy the party.
And Tom wanted some publicity. Maybe some reporter would do a scoop on the fact that he'd invited Lavinia. No doubt they were desperate for any shred of gossip that the Triwizard Champions might be able to provide. Tom could only hope that Draco would arrive sometime tonight to lay those rumours to rest. Tom had no interest in Lavinia romantically – nor any other man, woman, child or animal for that matter. The only love in Tom's life was power, and only when that power was in his own hands.
“Say, is that the Minister?” Tom nodded across the atrium at the established wizard. Putting on a confident smile, he glanced between his two companions. “Shall we go brush elbows with the elite?”
