It was a glorious Saturday morning, the sun was shining for the first time in forever and the air still had that spring crispiness. It was, in other words, the perfect morning for Quidditch. And she was stuck in the library. Fifth year was, as the twins had warned her, a real nightmare. The teachers’ mantra was ‘OWLS, OWLS, OWLS’ and Ginny was finding herself studying intensively not just in the week but also at the weekends, which used to be so free and easy. God, she missed the days when she could just go down to the Quidditch pitch, nick a school broom and fly for as long as she wanted to. Of course she had to come down sooner or later. There would be a team practice and even when Gryffindor had a practice her role as a reserve was minimal. Sure she could pass the Quaffle but when the chasers practiced their moves they did so as a seamless trio, not a mishmash team of three plus one. Ginny, admitting temporary defeat to Achievements in Charming, put the book down. An hour’s break wouldn’t do her any harm. Little and often, that was how much you were supposed to study, right? Letting a gleeful smile cross her face, she stole out of the library, leaving her marker in the book for later. Emerging into the sunshine was wonderful. Fresh air had never made her feel so alive. Feeling like a little kid, she stole over to the broom shed, whispered “alohomora” as she tapped the lock and it clicked open. She paced across the shed, looking for a broom whose twigs were still relatively ordered, not a Shooting Star which were infinitely slow. She eventually selected from the masses a Cleansweep Six. It was evidently well-used, but looked serviceable for her purpose. HARRY JAMES POTTER

He had to get away from the task! They were driving him crazy and he hadn’t been on his broom in a while. He knew that Quidditch had basically been put on hold, but he was still on the team. He was a the seeker, he best in a while from what a lot of people told him. He had been on the team first year and he had done his very best each game. It was where he felt the most at home… On a broom, no matter the weather. He had finally gotten away from everyone who wanted to know about the task, who wanted to help him figure things out and he had grabbed his broom and made his way to the Quidditch pitch.

He wore his normal uniform stuff, trying to dodge anyone who might want to talk about the task and once he was out of the school, he went ahead and kicked off there. He really didn’t want to be caught by anyone to talk about the task, so flying to the pitch was quicker. Finally, he got there, but someone else was already there. It was Ginny, he knew her from the team and the fact that her brother was in his class and he thought she was very pretty. Yes, Ginny was very pretty and maybe it was because she was a red-head that drew him towards her. His father had had a thing for red headed women and it probably went from father to son without a problem.

This had been where the champions had faced the dragons and she could almost see the haunt of one now, reaching up to snap her in its gaping maw. Instead she dived suddenly, spiralling past its imaginary jaws and towards the ground. She broke out of the dive and sped off towards the goal hoops again, laughing loudly. She heard somebody’s voice and turned around quickly, embarrassed at the flush that appeared on her face when she saw Harry’s messy black hair and smile. Ginny liked to think that she knew him well, they were both on the team, even though she was a reserve, but with no Quidditch Cup this year she hadn’t really had the chance to talk to him. Especially since every girl in Gryffindor now fancied their champion. “Hi Harry!” She greeted, raising her voice so it travelled across the pitch. Ginny flew lazily in his direction with an large grin on her face. She’d had a bit of a crush on Harry for, oh, only the last three years. Who could resist a seeker? HARRY JAMES POTTER

As he flew in closer to the field he watched as the red haired Weasly do dives and go back up, laughing about it the whole time. He smiled at how she was acting. She was a kid at heart and he loved it! She was very pretty, he could not lie to himself about that and he always thought that maybe, he could get to know her better and better. He was not best friends with her brother, but they were in the same year and they knew each other. There were a lot of the family he knew, the twins he knew from when they played on the team and they were a great joke. They were just awesome and then Ginny… Well, she was just Ginny and she was a great Witch. She was very smart from what he knew and she was a great player, even if she was just a relief. He knew she would be starting soon enough, one day, she would be a main player and she would be great!

“Hi Harry!” He swore from where he was on his broom that she was blushing, but maybe it was the cold air that was up higher above the ground. He sometimes got red cheeks when he was in the air, flying around with rain or cold air hitting his face. His father always laughed at him afterward, popping his cheeks sometimes while his mother kissed the other. It was great having them here for the games and now his mother here for the Task. He loved their support and he would never ask for anything else. "What you doing?"

[/color] He asked, knowing that she was probably practicing or something, but there were no games this year and even though it was nice to see the working hard team mates, even he knew when a break was needed and with how much he was working on the task, it was nice he did not have to practice, but then again... He missed it... This was his home, flying in the air after a golden ball.

He asked her what she was doing out here and she considered a moment. “I was supposed to be doing homework but I really needed a break. OWL year is hard!” She told him, as if he didn’t already know that. It was a little strange for both of them to be out here, honestly. The Quidditch Cup wasn’t taking place this year so there was no need to practice, although it was good to keep in shape. They both had bigger worries, Ginny her OWLs and Harry had the Tournament, of course. He had been so brave in that first task, better than all the other champions put together. She knew from her brother Charlie that while the Hungarian Horntail was undoubtedly the most ferocious and deadly, the Chinese Fireball was no picnic either. Ginny felt her heart jump into her throat when she thought of how Harry had been so brave facing that dragon head on. “So what are you doing out here?” She asked curiously, hovering in the air and getting progressively colder. She needed to warm up desperately and a wicked glint came into her. One that anyone who knew Fred and George would recognise. “Race me?” She proposed, cocking an eyebrow at him. Everything about today was perfect for flying and it just made the Gryffindor so happy and everything felt perfect… And what could not be better? He was with a very pretty red head known as Ginny. She was a good flyer and now that he was thinking about it, why was she a back-up or relief? Harry honestly had no idea at the moment, but she was and right now, he did not need to focus on that. ”I was supposed to be doing homework but I really needed a break. OWL year is hard!” He smiled, knowing exactly what she meant, but found it rather amusing that she found it hard. Ginny was smart, he did not think she would find it difficult, but then again, it took its toll on everyone.

”Don’t remind me… It is nothing less than torture… For some of us anyway… Your pretty smart, so I doubt you are having any major problems.”

[/color] He said, not able to contain the smile on his face as he said it. His father had been a flirt when he had gotten older and he had liked Red Heads and apparently, it ran in the family pretty good. It was not his fault his father passed down the gene! He didn’t pick his parents, though he would of never asked for anything less. ”So what are you doing out here?” He let himself let go of his broom, feeling completely comfortable on the broom and stretching his arms slightly. ”I needed to get in the air… Needed to relax and get away from the worries of the task.” He said as he noticed something about her…

That grin… That look in her eyes that held the fire of the two boy he knew as Fred and George Weasly. She was nothing more than their little and she was just like them to a point. ”Race me?” He smiled and gripped his broom. He gave a nod and waited for her to tell him where they were going.

She wasn't stupid but OWL year was hard work whichever way you cut it and she couldn't hold back a grin when he inferred that it hadn't been easy for him either. “I guess if you and my brother survived it, I definitely will!” She teased. The perfect Mr. Potter wasn't really that perfect, but he was strong and brave... and an awesome Quidditch player. Plus all the abuse from the Slytherins over the years just rolled right off his back, which was impressive to say the least. She nodded as he told her that he needed to get away from the pressure of the tasks. “When you win,” Ginny said with no small degree of certainty. “The glory will be unbelievable. But it's going to be hell until then, isn't it?” She really felt for him. There was so much pressure on him from the Gryffindors, who not only wanted him to beat the other schools but Riddle as well. And the Slytherins had evidently never heard of the term 'fair play'. “Round the pitch once? As they hovered in the air above the field and Harry was enjoying the time he was spending with the red haired girl from his class and team. ”I guess if you and my brother survived it, I definitely will!” Harry smiled at the girl for a moment and nodded. Yep, him and Ron had made it, even though he was not close to the red haired boy, he knew him pretty well. ”You’ll do fine… We made it and your way smarter.”

[/color] The Hogwart’s champion said to the younger classmate and friend. He could not help but think she was very pretty and he could not help but enjoy more time with her.

”When you win.” He smiled at her certainty and held himself up straighter on the broom and crossed his arms. ”The glory will be unbelievable. But it's going to be hell until then, isn't it?” He gave a charming smile and nodded to her. ”Yes, it will… But when I win, you and I… Dinner in London.”[/color] He said, giving her a slight wink said he smiled at her.

”Round the pitch once? First back gets to decide the loser's fate?” As she suggested, she was gone before he could get ready and he had to kick it into high gear. He did not really want to win, so he got neck and neck until they got near the finish area and he barely let himself fall behind and allowed her to win. ”Damn… You won…”[/color] He said to her and smiled.

Of course, her (sixth) big brother being a little, well… goofy, she was hoping to at least equal his grades. But Harry… that boy knew his stuff, as evidenced by his presence as one of the champions in the Triwizard Tournament. She couldn’t suppress a tiny shudder of excitement when he promised her dinner in London if, no when, he won. Because really, he had nothing going against him. He was the best flier in school, not awful academically and good God he was really cute! Of course, that creepy Tom Riddle Jr., whom she had never really encountered and was glad, had most of that too… but somehow and she couldn’t put her finger on it, she knew that Harry had the edge on him. “That’d be great,” she said, allowing a shy smile to filter through. That expression morphed into a grin as he agreed to her little challenge. Ginny’d had that cheeky little head start, but with her borrowed Cleansweep and her inferior flying abilities, she knew that she didn’t really stand a chance. Indeed it seemed that way as he drew close on his broom, level actually. But they were almost to the goal posts… the impromptu finish line, and Ginny gritted her teeth to put on an extra burst of speed. Shockingly, it seemed to work! As she crossed the metaphorical line, she held her arms in the air and whooped. And less than a second later, Harry drew up beside her and declared her the winner, smiling all the time. Of course, he was too much of a gentleman to win the race, though he could’ve easily done. It made Ginny’s cheeks flush just a little. But as the winner… hadn’t she said that she could decide the loser’s fate?
