Royston sat with his hands on his cheek and the elbows propped on the table’s surface. His face was having the expression of someone watching his favorite movie. He didn’t miss a single word the professor was saying. Even though he was in love with Care for Magical Creature classes, Muggle Studies was the class he put the most effort and concentration to. Having lived among the Muggle community, Roy found their life-style very interesting. Hence he really enjoyed learning more about them. The subject gave him wider knowledge on the non-magical people around the world. He was highly fascinated by how they created things to help them live without magic. So every time he came into the class, he was completely absorbed in the lessons. Only until the homework was given did he show a sign of boredom and disappointment.
The boy was never a smarty. Essays would take him a long time to write and he had no super smart friend to help him with it. He disliked most of the classes here at school because he just couldn’t be good enough at them. He wondered what would happen if he failed too many in the upcoming OWLs. Maybe the teachers would not let him study at Hogwarts anymore. Now that was something scary. It wasn’t his parents he worried about. They were always too focused on his youngest brother to even care. But his grandfather was a different story. The old man always made such a fuss over his and his brother’s grades. To think of all the things his grandfather would do to him if that ever happened was terrifying.
The school bell finally rang to tell the children their last class of the day had ended. Roy sat still on his seat as the others were leaving the class, slowly putting stuffs back into his school bag. He had no intention to go out and enjoy the evening too soon. He wouldn’t have much time anyway to play. A large pile of delayed homework was still waiting for him back in the room. Some of them were due the next day. Yet, he didn’t want to do any of the essays. He knew he had to focus on his homework but it couldn’t stop him from doing what he loved.
As usual, he was staying behind so that he could talk with Professor Scrivener. He liked the teacher not only because he taught the subject he loved, but also the man’s nice personality. Royston usually came to him when he needed help with his essays, or even Transfiguration practice. It surprised him to learn that the professor was pretty good at it. Because his grandfather often said only useless geek would choose to teach that subject. He knew his grandpa hated Muggles but that sounded a little harsh. And the old man was actually wrong.
When almost everyone in class had gone, the brown haired boy got up and hung the school bag over his shoulder. He made his way toward the teacher’s table. “Good evening, Professor,” He greeted politely when he made it to the spot where the professor was with a wide friendly grin. His voice was a mix of admiration and the excitement one could often find from him, his eyes glinting in the inspiration he got from the lesson. “That was a great lecture sir. I totally agree with your opinion on the similarity between Wizards and Muggles. Especially about the part about their social life.”
He could go on and on, though he knew it would be better to just leave it at that. Talking too much would make him sound annoying. He learned through life experiences.
