I can see these two having a very interesting friendship. Demi would like him and kind of gravitate towards his warmth. He loves animals of all kinds, and has a bit of a habit of sometimes stepping in between his fellow housemates and their victim. So its possible that he'd have gotten someone to back off Hagrid. Of course... Rubeus would also know him by reputation from Demi's second year when half the school saw someone call him a slut when Demi had just lost his virginity to him. The next day everyone heard that the boy had woken up screaming because his bed had been lit on fire while he was sleeping and the words 'slut' was jinxed into his back. So Hagrid would probably be wary about him. Sooo.. abstract friendship and maybe their a bit protective over each other?
