SITE-WIDE EVENT The Champions' First Task

“Each champion has been assigned a dragon which they must face. Their task to to retrieve the golden egg which each dragon has been given to guard. The champion may only bring one tool into the arena with them – their wands.”
“Let the first task begin! Good luck!” [/blockquote]
Rundown: The first task has begun. Champions only.[/blockquote]
Don’t SAY I'm out of TOUCH With this RAMPANT chaos – YOUR REALITY I know WELL what lies BEYOND my SLEEPING REFUGE The NIGHTMARE I built MY OWN WORLD to ESCAPE!
Well, since it seemed no-one else would do it, she supposed she might as well. Ladies first, after all… that, and the fact that the little fairy-looking girl from Beuxbatons would probably be eaten alive… The redhead also felt a bit of a desire to grapple with the beast she would be versus, even if she wasn’t quite sure why… Maybe it was the blood in her, that desired such things, but she didn’t really care, at this point. Her expression remaining completely neutral, Emiliya rather unceremoniously ripped her finger from the dragon model’s jaws, and made her way to the mouth of the tent. Her expression never once changed, but remained completely cold and emotionless – though she did reinforce her Occ;umency walls and shields, some of which were natural, and some of which were taught – as both she and her so-called “challenger” were announced. Entering the arena, she didn’t bother with her wand. No spells would serve her hear, and she didn’t like to advertise the fact that she could perform wordless magic if she didn’t have to… this was why she kept clear of most people; if she didn’t need to interact, then she didn’t need to call her parchment with the wordless spell which created it and the quill to which her thoughts were all but dictated.
Removing that thought from her mind, the tall, extremely pale girl focused on her task at hand. She needed to be fast, she knew that, but not just fast; she needed to be vampire fast. This was why, as soon as she had heard the word “dragon” pass through the lips of the gossips, she had set about brewing herself a potion which enhanced her abilities. However, the side-affects were not something she had been very comfortable with, even if she had known she had little choice in the matter. Not only were her strength and speed enhanced, but her overall vampiric nature was as well, for these few hours the brew would have affect. It was, essentially, for the moment as if she were a true Halfling, not just some creature floating in limbo, never having any sort of place in either world. Taking a breath to calm herself, she forced herself to ignore everything but the dragon before her – the dragon, and the adrenaline she could feel beginning to course through her veins. Had she been more expressive, she might just have smirked, but as she was not, she simply got going. Dear God, she had never dreamed it would feel this different, to have the true power of even a half vampire… However, she got the feeling that, as quickly as she could dodge the great creature she was maneuvering around, and attempting to steal a golden egg from without damaging the other, real eggs… that this would quickly go to her head.
And, as usual, she was right. She got cocky, something she usually never allowed herself to do, knowing that cockiness was 99% the main cause of death in such situations. That said, she was so sure she had this thing in the bag, as she had secured the golden egg she sought, and managed to neither get hurt herself, or being harm to the other eggs. This was when she truly made a mistake that could easily have cost her her life. The dragon, enraged that this little human child could outwit it so spectacularly, had swung its tail at her one final time, and Emiliya, dangerously cocky as she had stupidly allowed herself to become, delayed her moving from the line of fire until the last moment. She was so damned convinced she could do it – or maybe that was just the adrenaline talking? She wasn’t sure – that she delayed moments too long. While she herself wasn’t flattened like a pancake, even if she deserved to be, her leg wasn’t so lucky. The rail-thin redhead felt the bones in her leg snap in a few different places, and then the pain set it. The burning, white-hot pain.
Wait… no… that wasn’t from the beast’s tail… She attempted to keep moving, but her leg was completely useless by this point; however, she did manage to get most of herself out of the way, before she was rendered nothing more than a bloody scorch mark on the rocky terrain of the arena. Of course, as before, she didn’t come out completely unscathed. Her leg, the right one she now managed to notice, her right side, and a good deal of the corresponding arm were caught in the blast. If she had thought she had known pain before, when the dragon’s tail all but crushed her leg, this… this was something she had never even imagined possible. Pain, agony beyond words blinded her, and she was quite sure she was going to die from her own stupidity, and that it didn’t matter that her left arm seemed to have completely locked in place around the golden egg, clutching it to a chest that was more skin stretched over bone than anything else. ‘Mama... Shte se vidim skoro... Az sŭm... sŭzhalyavam ... I... neuspeshno...’ That was the only coherent thought her brain could currently form, as she was sure she would die here. And then, as she could feel the flames racing for her again, aching to devour her flesh (what extremely little there was left) and bone and muscle – or was that just her own pain…? Or perhaps St. Michael and his flaming sword come to take her from this life – she made the first sound she had uttered since she had learned of her Mother’s death two and a half years ago now.
She screamed, and it wasn’t just any scream, but a screech of pure and utter agony – and then, she mercifully lost consciousness.
SWALLOWED UP in the sound of my SCREAMING Cannot CEASE for I FEAR the SILENT NIGHTS Oh how I LONG for the deep SLEEP DREAMING The GODDESS of IMAGINARY light!

HARRY JAMES POTTER
The beast chosen, the Chinese Fireball, was what Harry Potter would be fighting against within the next few minutes. He had heard that the Durmstrang student had been injured and Harry could only hope he was not injured either. Glancing at the beast that sat on his table beside the cot in the tent, Harry wondered if this would be a simple task. Sure, it was meant to be hard, but with the correct spells it could easily be considered easy. Harry knew the first spell that he would use, it would be a rather simple one, but he hoped that it would give him a good distraction so he could get to the egg. He was putting together more in his own mind so that he could follow up with it.
As he sat upon the cot, he saw someone come into the tent and motion for him to get ready. He closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath and then letting it out slowly before getting up and heading towards the entrance to the area they would be fighting in. The crowd was yelling and screaming and it was getting harder and harder to hear. Harry’s wand was at the ready, waiting to be used for the first time during the whole tournament. He was repeating the spell over and over again in his mind before he was told to step out. He walked into the arena, looking around carefully. He spotted Katherine and the others all sitting with the rest of the house, he also saw his parents and the parents of his friends as well watching from another portion of the area.
His eyes moved over the arena, looking for the Dragon that would be soon attacking him, hoping to kill him. The arena was covered in rocks, though many gave plenty of hiding area and the golden egg was sitting with a few others in the middle. The dragon was nowhere to be seen, but that did not mean that it was not there. The spell to summon his broom was also upon his mind, but he would not use it until he had to. The sound of hissing came from his left, causing him to turn his head to see a dark red object moved, but it was gone shortly after. The arena was large and there were places for the best to hid in without a problem. Harry moved carefully towards the egg, keeping his hand on a near boulder as he worked his way forward. It was not long before the beast made her presence known and soon was looking at him from across the eggs.
With a quick movement she was jumping across the eggs and landing in front of him, her teeth bared as he stood there watching her. He let out a breath before jumping out of the way as a stream of fire was sent his way. She snaked her head, her large eyes looking at him as she tried to snap her jaws at him. ”Oppugno Avis!”
He yelled, pointing his wand at the beast before a flock of birds came from his wand and began to attack the beast. The dragon backed away slightly as all the small animals flew out at her, but it was merely from surprise and no fear. As the small creatures attack, she was being pecked and poked by their beaks and this allowed Harry to move towards the eggs. The birds did not last long because soon, she was snapping her jaws and spewing fire from her jaws, causing some to disappear. Harry cursed under his breath and found himself once again facing the mighty dragon.
Harry quickly ran towards a boulder as the beast once again blew fire at him. The heat was intense and Harry felt sweat begin to come down his face. The beast was nasty that much was for sure, but then again, it was protecting eggs, which gave it a reason to be nasty. As the flames died, Harry came out from around the boulder, he was not going to sit here and let the beast think she had won. He held his wand and as the dragon snakes her head at him, he pointed his wand and yelled another spell. ”Confundo!” As the spell went out at the dragon, the beast seem to completely forget what was going on. She backed away, shaking her head slightly, looking around at all the people at the stands and soon, tripping over a rock and tumbling down away from the eggs. She looked up at Harry for a moment, hissing before getting up, but seemed to not understand what was completely going on. Harry took this moment to run for the egg, but he still had to be careful. As he moved towards the eggs, a large red tail came at him, batting him back away from the eggs. As he finally hit a boulder, the air was completely knocked out of him.
The dragon was back on her feet, though she still looked dazed and bewildered, it seemed to know that she was protecting those eggs and she had to protect them. He wondered if maybe the people who made the task caused them to be like this. He felt his chest tighten with pain and he knew he possible had a broken rib or two… Maybe even more than two… He had to get that egg though. He had a few more tricks up his sleeve and it was time to bring them out. ”Expecto Patronum!” He knew the beast was not a dementor, but he was not using the large Patronus to go after one of those, no, he was not… A large stag appeared in front him, one that was white. Harry used everything he had to tell the best to run around the arena, to go by the eggs first and then run around the arena. The idea seemed to work, as the dragon was quickly chasing the Patronus slightly, giving Harry a chance to go after the nest. He ran quickly, not slowly, not even when the dragon saw him going towards the nest. Glancing back, he saw the dragon leave the fading stag and come after him. As a stream of fire was sent towards him, Harry pointed his wand at the beast. ”Aquamenti!” A stream of water came out, hitting the fire and the dragon some. Harry backed up, going closer and closer towards the nest until he was finally right on top of it and able to see the eggs. The water was still coming from his wand as the dragon was blowing fire…
Harry quickly dropped down to his knees before using his wand to send a knock back spell that caused he dragon to be sent back a few yards and allowed him to grab the golden egg and jump out of sight… His chest was hurting bad and he did not know what to do. He heard the beast running towards the area he had jumped into, but he had the egg, he had the golden egg… [/blockquote] WORD COUNT 1.180 COMMENT ^_^ TAGGED Everyone SONG none STATUS done [/blockquote]
This was it, the Durmstrang girl had been injured and the boy in red from Hogwarts had collected his egg. Now it was his turn, she had wished them all luck as they had left the tent to go face their dragons. It would be rude not to wouldn't it? The blonde wished the final champion luck as she was sent for and her name announced as well as the Welsh Green she would be facing off against. This was her time, to show everybody that she wasn't some dumb blonde pretty little thing from France. Angelique clutched her wand.
She wasn't dumb, she supposed that she was perhaps pretty and Angelique was indeed blonde. Yes she did come from France but she was not dumb. She was a heck of a lot smarter than people gave her credit for. She gritted her teeth as she entered the stadium ignoring her headmistress and her friends who were cheering her on from the stands. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on the Welsh Green which appeared only moments after she stepped into the arena. Sending a blaze of fire towards her, "Aguamenti!" Angelique called, water dousing the fire before it reached her.
"Accio Lyre!" The blonde said quickly before the dragon could do anything more, she had to put it to sleep using the lyre that her headmistress had shown her before the dragon could strike again. Her neat summoning charm made sure that the lyre landed neatly in her hands, seconds after she doused another flame of fire from the dragon. Finding the strings with her fingers, the blonde started playing a tune. An old song that her maman had once taught her, she even sang along to it. She had a pretty enough voice so that was all totally fine there.
The dragon began to gradually get sleepy, Angelique could tell as the dragon's eyelids drooped and inch by inch the dragon dropped to the floor in sleep. Angelique moved quickly to avoid getting trampled upon by the heavy body of the dragon as it came to the ground with a loud THUMP. Angelique closed her eyes momentarily to catch her breath, she had done it the dragon was out cold. Now all she had to fetch was the egg. Opening her eyes as fast as she had closed them, Angelique hurried across to the glint of gold near the dragon's eggs.
Plucking the heavy object from the ground and all the other eggs. Angelique hurried across the rocky ground to the safety and refuge of where she had entered the tent. She stumbled to the ground hard, the weight of the egg being more than she usually carried and grazed her face. A small amount of blood appeared on her face and Angelique used her now dirty hands to push herself up off the ground and hurried away clutching her wand and the egg. A look of relief appeared upon her face, she had done it. Gotten her egg and gotten away mostly unscathed

” Said the faceless assistant that came to summon him, and Tom followed, breathing deeply and clutching his wand tightly. “SLYTHERIN IS OUR KING!” Screamed a girl in the stands at the top of her lungs as he passed, but Tom didn't hear her. His feet felt heavy as he made his way to the arena, which was a massive rocky landscape. And in the center, stood the Hungarian Horntail, the most aggressive of all the known dragon breeds. An iron collar was clamped around her neck, with a single long chain hanging down from the center, securing her to the arena. That won't hold her, Tom thought to himself. Below the great beast, Tom could see the glint of the golden egg which he had been given the task of retrieving.
“Let's see what you're made of,” He said, stepping forward confidently. His movement evidently infuriated the dragon, who did not hesitate to go on the offensive, giving a battle roar before sending a stream of fire his way. Tom's heart was pounding in his chest as he kept walking, right towards the vicious brute. He flicked his wand towards the approaching flames. “Augamenti.”
Water met fire, and began to fill the arena with steam and smoke. This infuriated the dragoness, whose outraged bellow filled the stadium and left Tom's ears ringing, Tom kept walking towards her nest with the most confident air about him that he could muster. His entire body had begun to tremble. Later, he would claim that the trembling was from the adrenaline rush, and not from the terror which he felt at the prospect of death. But surely if Potter could do it, a superior student and wizard should have no issues against even a more aggressive beast with an even larger reputation for being a man eater.
A second blast of fire followed the dragoness's deafening bellow. “Augamenti.” Tom responded with, sending a jet of water into the flames. Unfortunately, the flames were only boiling the water away, making the arena uncomfortably hot and the smoke was both obstructing his vision and his breathing. He couldn't see the beast any more, and he hoped that she wouldn't be able to find him. The arena was filled with a hot mist that was making him sweat. But he had to keep going in the direction of that egg. Even if he had no idea where the dragoness would be lurking.
Suddenly, the smoke began to swirl in front of him as a dark shape emerged, the dragoness was less than ten feet in front of him and she seemed almost pleased to see him. She lurched forwards, fangs bared and Tom barely had a second to get out of the way. As he threw himself out of the dragoness's way, his left arm caught her bared fangs and tore right through his battle armor like it was wet parchment. Tom ended up shoving himself in the narrow space between two of the taller stones.
The taste of blood seemed to make the dragoness more frenzied. As the green fabric on his left arm became soaked with his own blood, the dragoness paused and gave a roar, before flapping her great wings, dislodging several large rocks and giving the injured Slytherin a dust bath as she tried to get some air. Clearing the arena of all the smoke and steam with several great beats of her enormous red-black wings, she was no longer trapped in a rather narrow – or at least, it was rather narrow for a dragon – dead end. Now she was perched almost directly above Tom's hiding place, and she wanted more than just a taste of the boy's blood.
Screeching at the top of her lungs, the dragoness seemed to slither down the stones, pinpointing the Slytherin's hiding place nearly immediately. Fortunately for Tom' the crevice in which he had managed to wedge himself was too narrow for the beast to get her head in. Furious about this, the dragoness reached in with her long, lethally clawed red-black foreleg, scraping at the stone as she tried to reach the boy, who pressed himself deeper and deeper into the crevice. If the dragoness had been able to see where she was aiming, the Slytherin boy would not have stood much of a chance.
“I don't want to die.” Tom whispered to himself, barely able to keep from whimpering. The immediate threat of his death was the only thing that truly terrified Tom Marvolo Riddle, Junior. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to let go of his left arm, which he had been clutching very tightly since it had been sliced open so easily by the dragoness's fangs. Gritting his teeth as he moved, he managed to change his position so that his wand would actually be of use to him.
The dragoness was furious now, and they both seemed to be running out of options. The dragoness snarled and seemed to decide that she wasn't going to get the boy out of the crevice, so she gave him another blast of red hot flames. Tom barely managed to counter her attack. “Augamenti, augamenti! Augamenti!” The stones around him were now blackened and charred, they were burning hot and he was overheating. He charged towards her, spraying a jet of water as he made his way to his escape. A jet of water sprayed the dragoness in the face and she bellowed with rage, backing up for a moment. Tom nodded with approval to himself as he bolted towards his escape, talking quietly to the dragoness as he moved. “That's right. Bring it on, bitch.”
As Tom reached the entrance of the crevice, the dragoness shook her head, sending a spray of water everywhere. The dragoness lunged towards her target now, who was more ready for her this time. “Bombarda Maxima!” The spell hit the dragoness in the face, and both knocked her back and stunned her for a few seconds. It gave Tom enough time to sprint away to a more safe location. However, if it was possible for the dragon to become any more enraged, being hit square in the face with the Bombarda Maxima charm was the thing to do it.
“Accio broom!” Tom shouted. He needed as much help as he could get right now, and a broom might just be able to give him an escape option. But any old broom wouldn't be any better for him than running on foot. No, he needed a good broom. “Accio firebolt!” He didn't care whose broom came to him, so long as it was something that would help him escape. He didn't want to die.
The dragoness was after him now and would catch up to him in mere seconds. Turning for a moment, he pointed his wand at a pile of rocks by the dragoness. “Reducto!” The rocks exploded and the dragoness was pelted with debris. She screeched and paused for a moment, smashing her spiked head into the rocks as if she were hoping Tom would be there and would get flattened. His broom summoning charm had failed. Feeling humiliated, Tom halted and turned to the dragoness. “Augamenti!” He said, spraying the dragoness in the face with another jet of water. Then, his next magic was whispered while the dragon roared with rage. “Crucio.”
The enormous red-black dragon turned from a fearsome nemesis one moment to a scaly beast that could do him no harm the next. The dragoness seemed to have become paralyzed, roaring and shrieking in both pain and outrage. Tom almost smiled for a moment, before the white-hot pain in his arm brought him back to his senses and the smile vanished from his face. He backed away quickly before releasing the dragon from the curse. Finally managing to make it to the base of the stone where the dragon's nest of eggs sat like a crown at it's peak, Tom turned to the dragoness, which now seemed to be recovering from being tortured.
“Imperio.” Tom said, pointing his wand at the dragon. Tom ordered her to go on a rampage. The dragoness bellowed and screeched before sending a blast of fire upwards towards the stands, causing a group of students to scream. Tom turned his expression to horror at the dragoness's actions, and quickly turned and scrambled up the stones as quickly as he could using only one arm. Once he reached the top, he grabbed the egg and hurried down the other side, hurrying towards the arena's exit.
As he reached the edge of the arena, he whispered one final spell to his wand. “Deletrius.” As he released the dragoness from his spell, he spoke with the utmost relief. “I win.” Then he heard her bellow, before the sound of metal snapping. Tom just wanted out of the arena, but he turned to look anyway and saw the dragoness's starting to climb the walls of the arena, clearly making her way to the top of the stands where she could smell humans.
She was free and she wanted to feast on human flesh.
Unfortunately for the audience, Tom wasn't about to turn to heroics. He might have gone back for a second round with the dragoness, but he'd lost so much blood that by the time he made it out of the arena, he lost his consciousness too.
